Sara Kennedy
Doctoral Student
Sara Kennedy is a doctoral student at Clemson University in the Planning, Design and Built Environment program with a focus on Architecture + Health. She holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Michigan State University, and is looking to expand her research in healthcare environments and the complex relationships between user and space. She works as a Graduate Research Assistant to Dr. Anjali Joseph for The Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing.
Swati Goel
Doctoral Candidate
Swati Goel is a fourth-year doctoral candidate in Planning Design and Built Environment, focusing on healthcare design and research. For her dissertation, she is studying how the built environment of a pediatric ICU influences family and staff experiences of family-centered rounds (FCRs). She got a bachelor’s in architecture in 2013 at the School of Planning and Architecture in India. She received an M.S. in Architectural Design and Research at the University of Michigan in 2018. She believes design should be rooted in evidence-based research. During her time at Clemson, she has worked as a graduate assistant at the Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing (CHFDT) and taught at two undergraduate architecture studios. Swati recently received the 2023-2024 Griffin/McKahan/Zilm (GMZ) fellowship from the Foundation for Health Environments Research (FHER), the 2023-24 Doctoral Dissertation Completion Grant, and an Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship from the Graduate School and the Office of the Vice President for Research at Clemson University to support her studies.
Devi Soman
Doctoral Student
Devi Soman is a doctoral student in the Planning, Design and Built Environment program with a focus on Architecture+ Health, as well as a Graduate Assistant to Dr. Anjali Joseph at the Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing. She secured a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Architecture from Mumbai University in 2010 and 2012 respectively as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital and Healthcare Management from Symbiosis International University in 2013. She has worked as an architect in India since 2010. Her personal and professional experience led to her intrigue in Healthcare Design. Her work through her academic and professional life focuses on different aspects of healthcare design, most recently being diagnostic centers in public healthcare facilities in India. She acquired the EDAC certification in 2020 and her interest in healthcare design for emergent nations continues to propel her journey within the academic realm.
Mina Shokrollahi Ardekani
Doctoral Student
Mina Shokrollahi Ardekani is a doctoral student at Clemson University in the Planning, Design and Built Environment program focusing on Architecture and Health. She holds a Master of Science in Architectural Design from the Istanbul Technical University. For her thesis, she examined the spatial perception of individuals with autism and the impact of spatial elements on their cognitive mapping process. After graduation, she moved to Sweden in 2019 and joined The Centre for Healthcare Architecture at Chalmers University of Technology as a project assistant. Currently, she works as a research assistant at The Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing (CHFDT) within Clemson University.
Monica Gripko
Doctoral Student
Monica Gripko is a doctoral student in Clemson University's Planning, Design, and the Built Environment program with a concentration in Architecture and Health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a minor in Sociology and a Master of Architecture from SUNY University at Buffalo. While in Buffalo, she worked as a research assistant at the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access and conducted a thesis study on individual personalization in suburban housing communities. Post-graduation, she worked as an architectural designer in Pittsburgh for several years before joining the Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing as a Graduate Research Assistant.
Yueci Jiang
Doctoral Student
Yueci Jiang is a doctoral student at Clemson University in the Planning, Design and Built Environment program with a focus on Architecture + Health. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Southeast University, China, and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She worked on some hospital projects in China and research projects in applying biometric methods to healthcare research at XR Lab, Berkeley. Currently, she works as a Graduate Research Assistant to Dr. Anjali Joseph for The Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing.
Ana Sandoval Aguilar
Graduate Student
Ana Sandoval is a student in the M.S. Architecture program with a concentration in Architecture + Health. She holds a Master of Architecture and a degree in International Development from Tulane University in New Orleans. Post-graduation, she worked as an architectural designer in Dallas, working on healthcare projects for different Native American tribes in the United States. Currently, she is a graduate research assistant at The Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing (CHFDT) at Clemson University.
Susanna Greiner
Graduate Student
Susanna Greiner is a student in the Master of Architecture program at Clemson University with a concentration in Architecture + Health. She attended Georgia Institute of Technology for a Bachelor of Science in Architecture as a Stamps President's Scholar. Currently, she is a graduate research assistant at the Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing (CHFDT) at Clemson University.
