4-H agriculture and animal projects help youth become models of success due to the variety of skills they learn. Agriculture project themes include plants, insects, farm physics and fast-food agriculture, while project areas in gardening, horses and ponies, livestock and pets are also available.
4-H members learn to communicate with others, build teamwork within their communities, and learn to serve others. 4-H'ers learn leadership and communication skills from cloverbuds through senior level. Additionally, several state and national level programs help to develop these skills that are open to all youth.
Our programming empowers youth to be healthy – body and mind – with the skills to make healthy decisions and lead healthy lifestyles. Having the confidence and skills to lead healthy lifestyles not only improves overall well-being; it enables youth to tackle life’s challenges today and become leaders in their lives, careers, and communities as they grow into responsible adults.
Natural Resources
South Carolina 4-H is growing the next generation of environmental stewards who will manage, care for, and raise awareness of our natural resources. We want to connect youth to nature through positive youth development opportunities using research-based information, involving youth in hands-on learning opportunities to confront some of the world’s most pressing environmental problems, while connecting youth to the science behind real-world issues.
Engineering challenges are fun and engaging ways to allow youth to compete in various STEM disciplines like bridge building, energy, GPS, robotics, rocketry, and more. The goals of this 4-H program are to provide a safe learning environment where youth can try, fail, and try again, gain valuable life skills, increase interest, confidence, and knowledge in science, and encourage futures in STEM-related careers.
