About the Agriscience Fair Challenge
Join us for the Agriscience Fair Challenge! Each individual or pair will design and present a scientific poster to illustrate experimental emersion and their use of scientific principles and/or emerging technologies related to agriculture, food, or natural resources systems.
Challenge Objectives
-
Youth apply the scientific process to explore questions.
-
Youth focus on important agricultural issues, questions, or principles.
-
Youth communicate effectively to present clear ideas and demonstrate their knowledge.
Challenge Rules
Individuals or Pairs of 2 youth
This challenge is for individuals or two youth participating together as a pair.
Age Divisions | Junior (9-13 years) | Senior (14-18 years)
Age is calculated as of January 1, 2025. In pairs where youth are in two age divisions, the age of the oldest youth will determine the age division in which the pair will compete.
Materials | Specifications | Time
Youth are expected to bring all materials related to their poster display: printed poster, display board (mounting pins or clips), and easel. A table will be provided upon request in the registration. In addition, a select few easels will be available on upon request through registration on a first-come, first-served basis. A confirmation of available materials will be sent after registration closes. Recommended size of posters is 48 inches wide by 36 inches tall. Content of the poster should align with the scientific method and be visually appealing to capture a reader’s attention and lead them through the work that was completed. (Resources below) Youth will have 60 minutes to present their Agriscience Fair projects to the general audience and panel of judges.
Categories
Youth will select one of seven categories that their agriscience project best aligns with:
- AI (Artificial Intelligence) in agriculture
- Animal systems
- Environmental services/natural resources systems
- Food products and processing systems
- Plant systems
- Power, structural, and technical systems
- Social science
Category descriptions can be found here.
Self-selection of category will be made during registration. Categories may or may not reflect actual recognitions awarded at the event.
Judging
Metric | Placing | Tie Breaker
Total scores will be a combination of Poster Score and Presentation Score. Posters will be scored according the Agriscience Fair Challenge Poster Rubric. Presentations will be scored according to the National FFA Agriscience Fair Convention Rubric (Individual Division or Pairs Division, as appropriate), which focuses on knowledge gained, scientific research, thoroughness/information, and results/conclusion. In the event of a tie, the individual or pair with a higher poster score will be the winner. If a tie still exists, the tie will be broken on scores received in the following presentation score sections in order: knowledge gained, thoroughness/information, and results/conclusions.
