Helping Improve the Lives of All South Carolinians through health and nutrition initiatives
The Clemson University Extension Service Rural Health and Nutrition team provides chronic disease prevention and self-management programs as well as policy, systems, and environmental approaches. The Rural Health and Nutrition team also serves South Carolinians through Policy, Systems, and Environmental approaches, which includes food access and food security initiatives. The team conducts virtual, in-person, and hybrid programs that are either evidence-based or practice-tested. The Health Extension for Diabetes (available in English or Spanish) program is one of the flagship programs offered by team members. The Rural Health and Nutrition team regularly conducts programs designed to enhance healthy lifestyles such as WalkSC, Yoga for Everybody, Know Diabetes by Heart, and Stirring Up Healthy Cooking.
Rural Health and Nutrition Extension Agents are located in several SC counties (with more to be added soon!). Programs conducted by team members are always free to the public and always focused on health across the lifespan. In select counties, agents are able to assist the public with health resource navigation and food access issues.
