The BI Team uses a holistic approach to bring business analytics, data mining, data visualization, data tools and infrastructure, and best practices together to help organizations make more data-driven decisions.

Requests for data typically result in the delivery of an Excel file or another similar format.

Often, this work can be completed quickly by a single analyst depending on the complexity of the request and the availability of appropriate data source(s). However, more complex requests or those involving multiple data sources or determination of a new data source, may take longer and require more senior resources for both the requested data and validation.

Requests Dashboards and other decision support tools are desirable when:

•  Data exploration and/or interactivity are beneficial to understanding data

•  There are multiple business questions to be answered

•  Simulation is required to investigate what-if scenarios

Dashboards start with a larger, broader cut of data or may require that multiple sources be joined to provide the necessary perspective for analysis. Typically, this work can be completed with 1-2 analysts, with others giving oversight depending on complexity and the timeline. The timeline will be extended if new data needs to be sourced.

An analysis or research results are appropriate for requests needing a deeper dive into the data/subject matter or requiring more advanced analytical techniques.

Analyses and Research Requests target an answer or direction on a specific business question, require multiple steps, and/or potentially involve various iterations. Typically, this work can be completed with 2-3 analysts depending on complexity, methods required, and the timeline. The timeline will be extended if new data needs to be sourced.

Requests The Business Intelligence Team maintains approximately 22 common data set dashboards and their respective data for use by Finance and Operations leadership. These dashboards intend to provide the most current information on various topics, both internal and external to Clemson for easy and timely reference.

New Common Datasets can be requested and will follow the Dashboard deliverable standards.

Common Datasets are based on a targeted source used to answer specific questions. Typically, this work can be completed with 1-2 analysts, with others providing oversight depending on complexity and the timeline. The timeline will be extended if new data needs to be sourced.

Quite often, our dashboards & tools require an update to maintain function.  These are typically monitored and tracked with an updated schedule after the initial work has been completed.  Any additions to existing dashboards/tools or requests for updates to a data pull or analysis will require a new request form.

Updates to existing dashboards can be made in less than a day, typically with one analyst, depending on the complexity of the data source(s).
