Radiation and Laser Safety Training

Initial Radiation Safety (IRS) is a classroom training, and it is required for all RAM users and all RAM and X-ray. Responsible Investigators. IRS training is held usually at the beginning of the Spring, Summer and Fall semester. The concrete date and time of the IRS training is set based on the survey of the persons interested in taking this training. Annual Radiation Safety (ARS) refresher is an online training required for any person actively working with radioactive material, i.e. listed on a RAM Project. ARS is not a substitute for a classroom Initial Radiation Safety training. Persons due for the ARS will be notified by the Radiation Safety personnel via email in the beginning of the month when ARS is due.

Sealed Source Radiation Safety training is specifically tailored to the users exclusively of the sealed radioactive material sources. It is an online training and it has to be taken annually by any person actively using sealed sources.

Research X-Ray Safety is an online training required for any person before starting to use Analytical or Industrial X-Ray equipment and every (2) years thereafter. Persons due for the refresher will be notified by the Radiation Safety personnel via email in the beginning of the month when it is due.

Veterinary X-Ray Safety is an online training required for any person before starting to use X-Ray equipment on animals and every two (2) years thereafter. Persons due for the refresher will be notified by the Radiation Safety personnel via email in the beginning of the month when it is due.

Laser Safety Training is currently provided by the outside company (Kentek). Please click on the link to provide your name and Clemson University email to the Radiation Safety personnel. Once your information is submitted to the provider, you will receive instructions on how to access the training.
