Membership, Bylaws and Expectations
Board Makeup
The Student Affairs Development Board is comprised of members specified by the Development Office and Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). Members are appointed to a term of two years and are eligible for reappointment with the approval of the VPSA. An effort will be made to geographically represent concentrated areas of population of Clemson parents and alumni.
To carry out its mission, the Student Affairs Development Board and its members will:
- Support, advise and assist the VPSA on fundraising priorities and initiatives
- Serve as ambassadors by sharing strategic priorities, funding opportunities and the impact of Student Affairs on student life at Clemson
- Use individual networks and peer-to-peer relationships to help identify prospective donors for Clemson University
Board Expectations
The Student Affairs Development Board shall meet twice a year, in conjunction with University events whenever possible. Board officers are comprised of a chair(s) and vice chair(s). The vice chair(s) will succeed the chair(s). Officer terms shall be two years with the terms of the chair(s) and vice chair(s) staggered, so the vice chair(s) serve at the conclusion of the chair(s) term. All officers are appointed by the VPSA.
Members of the Development Board are expected to:
- Provide counsel to the VPSA on the division's fundraising priorities
- Assist the VPSA and senior director of development in identifying, contacting and cultivating relationships with prospective donors to increase philanthropic support to Student Affairs and Clemson University
- Work individually with the development staff to identify at least two major gift prospects (someone who is able to commit $5,000 or more a year for at least five years)
- Participate actively and attend meetings and events as appropriate
- Commit to an annual gift to Student Affairs and the VPSA at Clemson University commensurate with one's ability to support divisional priorities
- Assist in the recruitment of potential new members when requested by the VPSA and senior director of development
- Host at least one reception in their city of residence on an annual basis
