CARE Network Referral

CARE meeting

What is the CARE Network?

The CARE Network is a service of the Office of Advocacy and Success that offers individualized assistance for all Clemson students by assessing needs, identifying support networks, and offering referrals to campus and community resources. We encourage any person who is concerned about a student to complete our referral form so that we can outreach to the student and offer support.

CARE Network Referral Form

Emergency Assistance

Submitting a referral to the CARE Network is not appropriate if the student or situation requires immediate attention or there is an emergency of any kind; please call Clemson University Public Safety at 864-656-2222 or 911 for local emergency services, and then submit the referral form so the CARE Network can follow-up after the emergency has been addressed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When should I refer a student to the CARE Network?

The CARE Network is designed to help connect current students with the resources available to support their academic and personal success, well-being, and safety. We encourage any person who is concerned about a student’s well-being to complete our referral form so that we can reach out to the student and offer support. Common reasons for a CARE Network referral can include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Adjustment Issues
    • Basic Needs Insecurities
    • Behavioral Concerns
    • Career or Graduation
    • Emotional or Mental Health Concerns
    • Financial Hardship
    • Grief or Loss of a Loved One
    • Personal Health or Wellness
    • Relationships or Student Engagement
    • Other Concerns
  • How can the CARE Network help students?

The CARE Network is responsible for helping undergraduate, graduate, and professional students navigate and connect with campus and community resources that will best address their support needs, which may relate to academic, personal, emotional, medical, financial, or any other hardship. It is important to note that the CARE Network is not counseling or therapy. Rather, CARE Case Managers have the opportunity to develop close helping relationships with students while coaching them toward appropriate resources, self-care, and self-advocacy.

  • What is the CARE Network’s response time?

CARE Network referrals will be reviewed within one (1) business day; however, referrals are not reviewed outside of business hours (Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.) or during University holidays. Once the referral has been reviewed, a clearly defined level of care protocol is used to determine the most appropriate steps. If a current student needs immediate assistance and/or poses an imminent threat of harm to self, others, or property, please call Clemson University Public Safety immediately at 864-656-2222 and then proceed with submitting the CARE Network referral for follow-up once the emergency or threat has been addressed.

  • What can a student expect during their first appointment?

During your first appointment with the CARE Network, you and your CARE Case Manager may:

    • Discuss your current needs and any challenges you may be experiencing.
    • Develop and implement an action plan for the future.
    • Explore referrals to campus and community resources and assist with scheduling appointments.
    • Empower and coach you toward advocating for yourself and your needs.
    • Schedule any follow-up appointments if needed.
