Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Welcome to Supplemental Instruction! This service is designed to help you succeed in your most challenging courses. Read the information included here to take advantage of SI, and keep an eye out for weekly emails from the SI leader for your class to participate.
What is Supplemental Instruction?
SI is a series of peer-led, collaborative, free weekly review sessions for students in difficult courses (those with high D/F/Withdrawal rates) at Tri-County. It is a service that benefits everyone, not just a session you should attend if you’re struggling in a particular class.
The SI leader for your class collaborates with the professor for your course and builds their sessions to reinforce concepts that will appear on exams. Data has shown that students who attend SI sessions earn higher grades, and as an added benefit, you can win prizes when you attend SI sessions!
What is attending an SI Session Like?
Sessions are facilitated by SI leaders, fellow students who have taken the class and earned an A. Your SI leader will attend your class, hold two weekly review sessions (in-person or virtually) and lead you through collaborative activities to help you better understand course content.
SI leaders don’t grade assignments or teach new material. Instead, they offer another way to engage with class material.
SI Session Schedule
The SI session schedule is created weekly. If you are enrolled in a class we support, you will receive the schedule in your TCTC email each week. We also post the schedule on our Instagram and Facebook page.
