Ph.D., Genetics, Clemson University
M.Sc., Zoology, University of Pretoria (South Africa)

Research Interests

Atmospheric Microbiome Sciences, Aerobiology, Airborne Disease Ecology, Biological Aerosols, One Health Genomics, Environmental Health, Population Health and Air Quality Assessment, eDNA/eRNA, Atmospheric Biology, Environmental Genomics, Molecular Ecology

Research Group (Lab)

Dr. Metris researches the air microbiome and airborne disease ecology. To do this, she develops in situ instrumentation for atmospheric surveys of environmental nucleic acids by aircraft. She conducts ongoing ground and flight campaigns to collect and analyze bioaerosols from the atmosphere using metagenomics and metatranscriptomics to characterize the aerobiome and learn more about the fate and transport of airborne environmental nucleic acids.
