2016 Student Awards
Each year we honor students who demonstrate academic achievement, strong character, leadership skills, community involvement and many more outstanding qualities during our Annual Spring Honors & Awards Ceremony. Below are the 2016 honorees.

College Awards
Beta Gamma Sigma Award, President
Each year the custom of the Clemson Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma is to elect by acclamation the top two undergraduate students as president and vice president.

Blue Key Academic and Leadership Award
A plaque and cash award are given to a student in recognition of outstanding leadership and achievement in the College of Business.

Delta Sigma Pi Scholastic Key Award
Delta Sigma Pi is an international, professional business fraternity at Clemson. Each year it presents a scholastic key at each business college in the U.S. to the student with one of the highest overall grade point ratios. This award also consists of a cash gift and certificate.

The Delta Sigma Pi Chapter Collegian of the Year Award
The Chapter Collegian of the Year Award is presented annually to the one outstanding collegiate member of Delta Sigma Pi who has exemplified the values inherent in the ritual and perpetuated the ideals as set forth in the Purpose of the Fraternity. The award recognizes an individual for his or her contributions, achievements, participation and personal character. The National Collegian of the Year Award is the highest honor the fraternity can bestow on one of its collegiate members.

The Michael Paluzzi Award
This award is named in memory of Michael Paluzzi, who was a sophomore management major at Clemson. The Michael Paluzzi Award from the College of Business is selected by the Kappa Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity. In addition to demonstrating high academic achievement, the winner must possess a positive attitude, display strong leadership skills and demonstrate commitment to the organization.

Phi Kappa Phi Certificate of Merit
The certificate and cash gift are given to an outstanding student in each college selected on the following criteria: "be a graduating senior, have a GPA of 3.4 or above and have made noteworthy contributions in areas such as leadership, creative endeavors and service to his/her department, college and Clemson University."

Wallace Dabney Trevillian Merit Award
A bronze medallion and cash gift is given in honor of the late Dr. Wallace D. Trevillian, Dean Emeritus of the College of Industrial Management and Textile Science. This faculty-selected award is "given to a senior selected on the basis of his or her academic excellence, outstanding character and leadership in student organizations." Historically, it has been presented to a student with one of the highest scholastic records in the college, or one very close to it with extracurricular activities.

ScanSource Leader of Tomorrow Award
Juniors in the ILead! Program were challenged by ScanSource, a long-time supporter of the college, to compete in a case competition with the assistance of ScanSource mentors. Five students were selected to make their final presentations to ScanSource executives. One student was selected as the outstanding leader of tomorrow for their work. The four runners up received a cash award, and the grand prize winner received a cash award and an internship offer from ScanSource.

Target's "Leaders on Target" Award
This year the Target Corporation provided a grant to award students a cash award to recognize those ILEAD! students who attended two workshops presented by Target store managers and personnel. The award winners were awarded based upon their ILEAD! workshop interactions and reflective writing on the workshop themes.

College of Business Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Research
A cash award and certificate are presented to a student who has completed the most meritorious, undergraduate research project of the year. Projects have been evaluated in terms of the significance of their research question, the elegance of their method and design, and the clarity of the written presentation.

College of Business Award for the Outstanding Senior in the Field of Business
A cash award and certificate are bestowed upon a senior from the traditional business disciplines who has been judged to be superior in terms of cumulative grade point ratio, professional activities and potential for the future contributions within his or her field of study.

The Dean's Award for Excellence in Business is conferred upon a senior business major who has excelled in all aspects of the business curriculum and who has demonstrated the potential to make a significant contribution to his/her discipline. This award consists of a cash award and certificate.

The Deloitte LLP Achievement Award
A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a graduate student in accounting who demonstrates outstanding potential for success in an accounting career.

The Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP Achievement Award
A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a senior accounting major or graduate student in accounting who demonstrates exemplary scholarship and outstanding potential for success in the accounting profession.

A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a senior accounting major or graduate student in accounting based on scholarship, leadership and potential for service in the public accounting profession.

A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a graduate student in accounting to recognize outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills and participation in extracurricular activities.

The Faculty Award for Outstanding Student Intern
A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a student who has demonstrated leadership and excellence in the internship program.

The Federation of Schools of Accountancy Award
The Federation of Schools of Accountancy, an organization that promotes graduate professional education in accounting, annually recognizes an outstanding student in graduate accounting programs of member schools. The faculty of the member schools select the recipient based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership and character. The award is a plaque and cash gift.

The Grant Thornton LLP Achievement Award
A cash award and certificate are presented to a senior accounting major returning to the accounting program at Clemson. The award is for distinguished integrity, teamwork and leadership activities, and a dedication for the accounting program and profession.

The J. C. Hubbard Award
A cash award and medallion are presented annually to a graduating senior majoring in accounting, cited by the School of Accountancy faculty for excellence in collegiate activities.

The KPMG LLP Achievement Award
A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a senior accounting major who has demonstrated excellence in the classroom, leadership and extracurricular activities.

The KPMG LLP Outstanding Graduate Student Achievement Award
A cash award and certificate are presented to a graduate student in accounting. The recipient is selected by the faculty based on academic achievement and potential for outstanding service to the public accounting profession.

A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a graduate student in accounting based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership and character.

The James A. Turner Award in Federal Taxation
A cash award and certificate are presented annually to a student majoring in accounting or financial management who has demonstrated learning capability through superior performance in the study of federal taxation, and who has exhibited outstanding promise for a successful career in the accounting profession.

Department of Economics
Harvey J. Wheeler Award for Outstanding Senior in Economics
This award is presented annually by family, friends and colleagues as a memorial to Dr. Harvey J. Wheeler, who served as the first head of the economics department. The recipient of this award is a graduating senior who, in the judgment of the members of the department faculty, has exhibited the best overall performance in economics while at Clemson. The award consists of a certificate and cash gift.

Hugh H. Macaulay Award For Outstanding Graduate Student
Professor Hugh H. Macaulay, a life-long leader in economic education at Clemson University, endowed a fund for the purpose of recognizing outstanding performance in the graduate program. The department has determined that this award should be given to the student who has demonstrated the most promise in graduate coursework in economics.

Marian L. Harris Award for Excellence in Economics
This award was created by the economics department in memory of Marian L. Harris, who together with her son John, was a long-time supporter of the department’s undergraduate programs. Recipients of this award are selected by the economics faculty on the basis of superior classroom performance, a high-quality senior thesis or outstanding service to the department, college or the University. The award consists of a certificate and cash gift.

Department of Finance
James D. “Jay” Westmoreland, CFP® ’89 Award for Merit
This award is funded by Mr. Jay Westmoreland, a graduate of the financial management program and a current member of the Alumni Advisory Board for the Department of Finance. Because of the personal importance of community service and philanthropy to Mr. Westmoreland, in addition to a strong academic record, the recipient must have demonstrated a commitment to serving the well-being of others. The award includes a cash award, certificate and individual commemorative plaque.

Dave L. Jenkin Award in Finance for Entrepreneurial Leadership
The Dave L. Jenkin Award in Finance for Entrepreneurial Leadership is a cash award, certificate and an individual commemorative plaque recognizing a senior with an established record of academic performance majoring in financial management. Additionally (and just as important), the student should be a recognized leader in some capacity on campus with a noticeable record of entrepreneurial activity during his/her tenure at Clemson University. The award is funded by Dave L. Jenkin, a graduate of Clemson University with a major in financial management.

Richard H. Klein Award in Finance for Scholarship and Service
This award was established in 2005 in honor of Dr. Richard H. Klein, who served Clemson University for 25 years as a professor of finance. The prize consists of a cash award, certificate and individual commemorative plaque and is given to a senior majoring in financial management who has demonstrated exemplary academic performance, and who has, through acts of service, contributed to the community, nation or to his/her fellow students.

Department of Management
Alan D. Wheeler Management Merit Award
This award is given annually to graduating management majors who exemplify Colonel Alan Wheeler's dedication to scholarship and citizenship. Colonel Wheeler's work as a teacher, student advisor and administrator, as well as the heroic circumstances surrounding his death, will long be remembered by those whose lives he touched. The award consists of a cash gift, certificate and plaque.

Boyd Joseph Todd Management Merit Award
This award is given annually to a graduating management majors who embody Dr. Boyd J. Todd's enthusiasm for scholarship and devotion to Clemson University. Dr. Todd was a longtime chair of the Department of Management and a Clemson graduate. He was influential in the establishment of what was then the Department of Industrial Management and was one of the founding faculty members of the department. Until his passing, Dr. Todd was a very active supporter of management scholarships at Clemson University. The award consists of a cash gift, certificate and plaque.

Department of Management Academic Excellence Awards
These awards are given annually by the faculty of the Department of Management to outstanding graduating students majoring in various academic areas of concentration offered by the department. The criteria for these awards are outstanding scholarship and performance in the undergraduate curriculum in management or industrial management as well as their chosen areas of concentration. It is expected that recipients of these awards will reflect the education and citizenship provided by the Department of Management in their chosen careers. The award consists of a cash gift, certificate and plaque.

The Excellence In Sales Award
The Excellence in Sales Award is presented to a senior marketing major who, in the opinion of the sponsor, has shown the greatest propensity to become a great salesperson – as evidenced by a student's performance at the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC), the largest sales competition in the nation. The award consists of a certificate and cash gift.

The SportPlus Excellence Award goes to two students concentrating in sports marketing who have excelled in academics and leadership, participated in events related to sports marketing as well as community service, and who exhibit the positive attitude and passion that are necessary for those who want to work in the industry. The Junior SportPlus Scholarship Award
The Junior SportPlus Scholarship Award goes to the junior marketing student with an emphasis in sports marketing who has the highest GPA. The seniors involved in the year's Tiger Paw Classic raise money for charity, as well as to fund this award for a rising senior in sports marketing with the expectation that next year's seniors will similarly "pay it forward." The award includes a certificate and a scholarship.
