The BIOE Department encourages students to consider study abroad, whether through a summer or semester experience. The opportunities range from graduate-mentored research, academic exchange, and professional development. Excursions, site visits, and tours enhance the experience. Pamplona Bioethics Summer

An exceptional study abroad opportunity for future engineers, scientists, and healthcare professionals exploring bioethics, where you will see how local healthcare and research facilities play a critical role in professional decision-making. Additionally, multi-disciplinary teams will use film and media to explore and debate bioethical topics. Program leadership is provided by Dr. John DesJardins.

Summer Research in Japan

This program will provide research experience for students in world-class research laboratories at the Nagoya Institute of Technology in Nagoya, Kansai University in Osaka, or the University of Tokyo. Each student will be paired with a graduate research mentor who will work side-by-side in the lab and will help acclimate to the culture. Program leadership is provided by Dr. Jiro Nagatomi.

BME Development in Europe

The goal of this program is to gain global professional development as it relates to the field of biomedical engineering and biomedicine. Students will visit such places as the European Parliament, Eli Lilly & Company, the Institut Pasteur in France; and the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research and Body Worlds exhibit in Germany. Program leadership is provided by Dr. Heather Dunn.
