Clemson Hydrogeology Symposium

Career KickStarter

Professional Networking

The Career KickStarter is a networking event designed to create an opportunity for students to develop a lasting professional network with experts in their field based on shared interests. The event occurs during the afternoon of the Hydrogeology Symposium in the Madren Center. The event entails a “speed-networking” activity and individual meet-and-greet with paired mentors/mentees.

Who Should Participate?

career kickstarter logoThe Career KickStarter is designed to match professionals with a willingness to partner with students who are entering their prospective career fields. All participation is voluntary. A target of 20-30 professionals is desired for the successful implementation of this event.

The number of students involved in the Career KickStarter will be capped at 25 students to ensure enough professionals are available to mentor. Students presenting at the Symposium will have priority for participating; other students will be selected based on their expected graduation date, submission of their CV, and eagerness to participate.

Vision

The Career KickStarter program envisions an event designed to foster networking and mentorship within the environmental sector for both students and professionals. We aim to provide students with an opportunity to meet, communicate, and learn from experienced professionals. We envision the mentors to have the opportunity to meet aspiring students looking for employment opportunities while offering insights into an environmental career. We hope students will learn about potential career pathways while receiving advice on how to strengthen their professional networks and successfully acquire an environmental professional position. We encourage student mentees and mentors to communicate beyond the event and strive to meet/keep in touch for 1 year following the event or longer!
