SMART Laboratory
Smart Materials Active Response Technology Laboratory
Research themes: The SMART Laboratory works in the design and research space of multifunctional materials. This includes:
- Multifunctional (Piezoelectric/Magnetostrictive) Materials
- Multifunctional Composites
- Bistable Actuation
- NDE/SHM Enhanced Composites
- Combined Systems of Multifunctional Materials & Systems
- Non-Destructive Evaluation of Composites
- Embedded NDE/SHM Materials Systems
- Machine Learning
- Multi-stable Composites
- Large Bi-/Multi-stable Systems
- Impact Resistance/Mitigation
- Vibration Response
- Combined/Integration Material Systems
Lab facility/equipment: The SMART laboratory comprises a National Instruments SCXI, a high-performance signal conditioning and switching platform for measurement and automation systems. It provides a single, integrated platform with USB connectivity for all signal conditioning and switching needs. An SCXI system consists of multichannel signal conditioning modules, which allow you to choose from a wide selection of analog input, analog output, digital I/O, and switching modules. In addition, his lab also consists of an autoclave/oven 3' 3' x 4' with a capacity of 300 psi at 850 ºF.
