Introduction: Hi! My name is Alayna Khoja, and I am from Fort Mill, SC. I am a Genetics major and plan to pursue a career in Genetic Counseling. I love exploring the outdoors, reading, and volunteering.
Ask me about...: EUREKA!, research, honors dorms, study spots, and anything else!
My advice for prospective students: Take a breath! College can be daunting, but you’ll be surprised at how similar some of it can be to high school. Take a second to relax, spend time with family and friends, and rest. Things have a way of working out, and you are far more capable than you realize. Additionally, as cliché as it sounds, don’t be afraid to try new things. Everyone else is in the same boat you are in those first few weeks, and making those connections will help you throughout your time at Clemson.
My advice for current students: Connect with your professors! While it’s easy to simply sit in on lectures, attending office hours is a great way to improve scores in class and learn more about the subject. Additionally, the more you interact with professors, the better they can understand you as a person, which is essential for good letters of recommendation.
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: I chose Clemson largely because of the Honors College. Being in the Honors College allows me to stand out and gain exposure to a larger variety of opportunities without having to completely overwhelm myself with competing for classes and resources. Additionally, access to early programs such as EUREKA! and Honors College resources allowed me to build my portfolio early and gain a head start. Of course, it does also help that Clemson offers a distinct major in genetics, unlike many other schools in SC.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: I love that there are a multitude of resources and areas to study and work so that you can stay focused on academics. There are also amazing Honors professors who love the subjects they teach, take unique approaches to teaching, and encourage students to focus on personal interests in classes.
My involvement in the Honors College: I am an Honors Student Ambassador, live in the Honors Residential College, and attended EUREKA! in-person in the summer of 2024.
My involvement in Clemson University: I am a member of the Biochemistry and Genetics Club, multicultural organizations, Clemson Crew, and I work as a graphic designer on The Pendulum’s staff. Additionally, I am part of a research lab investigating DNA and Genome Instability.
