Introduction: Hi! My name is Anna Maresca, and I am a Junior Health Science major from Aldie, VA. Coming to Clemson from out of state, I wanted to get involved on campus in as many ways as possible. Outside of the Honors College, I am on the executive board of my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, and a member of the Sales Innovation Program. I am a Health Science major with a minor in Business Administration, and I am also pursuing an Orthopaedic Medical Device Product Specialist certificate. I take a wide variety of classes that combine healthcare and business, as I hope to pursue a career in medical sales post-grad!
Ask me about...: The best place to get a chicken caesar wrap in Clemson (the correct answer is Loose Change!)
My advice for prospective students: Be passionate about the clubs/hobbies you are involved in! At Clemson, I joined many different clubs and organizations my freshman year because I wanted to branch out. Now as a junior, I am not involved in every club I tried, but I am SO passionate and excited about what I do now! College is the time to try new things and discover what you love doing! It is so much better to be involved and invested in a few different clubs to find what you're truly passionate about.
My advice for current students: It's never too late to try something new and branch out! My favorite Honors Seminar I've ever taken is a philosophy class, which was definitely out of my comfort zone being a STEM major.
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: I chose Clemson University because of the welcoming atmosphere that felt like home. Even at such a big school, I felt such an immense sense of support and community. Especially being in Honors College, I have found a great sense of unity that makes such a big school feel like one big, happy family. I am encouraged to be the best version of myself, both academically and socially, but I also am greeted with constant support from my peers, professors, and all members of the Clemson community. I’m so lucky to be at a school and in an Honors College that pushes me to be the best version of myself every day.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: My favorite thing about the Honors College is the opportunity to try new experiences. Whether it’s a fun Honors class or a specific club, there are so many opportunities to branch out and try things. It’s also so amazing having access to the Honors Center. It’s my favorite place on campus to study, and it’s very comforting to be greeted by the same familiar faces!
My involvement in the Honors College: I’ve been in the Honors College since my freshman year, and I’ve been involved as a Dixon fellow and an Honors College Ambassador. I completed the Dixon Fellows Program on cultural confidence and health, which was a great way to expand my knowledge of global healthcare outside of the classroom!
My involvement in Clemson University: At Clemson University, I am on the executive board of my sorority Alpha Chi Omega, a member of the Sales Innovation Program, and a competitor in the Science Catalyst Competition. I’ve also worked as a Sales and Service Intern for IPTAY and Clemson athletics.
If I could travel anywhere: If I could travel anywhere, I would go to Glacier National Park. I went hiking out west a few years ago, and went to almost every national park besides Glacier. I love nature and would love to go hiking there!
Three things I cannot live without: Three things I cannot live without are my dog, my Keurig, and my Apple AirTag (because I am constantly losing my keys).
What am I most thankful for this year?: I am most thankful for the opportunity to go abroad this past summer. I went to Valencia, Spain as a part of Clemson’s international internship program. I worked at a dental clinic during the week, and I lived with a host family who I grew very close to. I was truly immersed in the Spanish culture and it was the most amazing experience of my life.
My favorite Clemson class: My favorite Clemson class has been Professional Selling. I took this class because I’m a member of the Sales Innovation Program. I loved this class because it taught me applicable sales skills and prepared for sales calls in the real world. Even if you are not going into sales, this class gave so much valuable insight on professional skills, interviewing techniques, and searching for a job post-grad.
Favorite place on campus: My favorite place on campus is Y beach. I love going there on a sunny day to play spike ball with my friends or even just read by the lake.
My future goals: In the future, I want to pursue a career in medical device sales. I’m hoping to pursue a meaningful career path that combines my love for healthcare and for sales.
How has the Honors College made a difference in your life?: The Honors College has made a difference in my life by cultivating a sense of community in my time here at Clemson. It’s given me opportunities that I would not have known about otherwise and has forced me to step out of my shell and meet so many incredible people.
