Introduction: Hi! My name is Lulu and I am a junior in Clemson's Honors College! I am from Ventura, California and I am majoring in psychology with a minor in youth development studies. I am really interested in child development and hope to be a speech pathologist in the future. Outside of academics, I love to hang out with friends, go on road trips, cook, and go on walks around Clemson.
Ask me about...: Greek life, how to get involved, advice for out of state students, and the best places to eat in the area.
My advice for prospective students: My advice for prospective students is to go into college with an open mind! There are so many extracurriculars, organizations, and classes to choose from, so go into it all open minded and you might be surprised learning that you love something new and different then what you would normally do!
My advice for current students: My advice for current students is to find balance in your schedule. Make sure that on top of school and extracurriculars you are making time for the things you love to do and spending time with friends and family. Take it all in, being at Clemson are some of the best years of your life!
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: I chose Clemson because of its community. My mom went to Clemson and still talks about her time there, her friends, and experiences at Clemson every day. I knew I wanted to go to a school that also made a lasting impact on me. I chose to apply and be a part of the Honors College because of the opportunities it offered. I was really interested in the smaller class sizes, interesting seminars, and opportunities like the Departmental Honors. I liked that I could get involved in so many different ways and pursue a variety of paths.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: My favorite parts of being in the Honors College are and the opportunities it has given me and my experience living in Deschamps Hall (in the Honors Residential College) my freshman year. The academic opportunities that the Honors College offers have allowed me to dive deeper into what I am interested in though research and more classes. Living in Deschamps introduced me to so many people which made my transition into Clemson so much easier as an out of state student.
My involvement in the Honors College: I am an Honors Ambassador and an Honors Peer Mentor. I am also working on my Departmental Honors which means that I am writing a thesis related to my department and areas of study, psychology and youth development.
My involvement in Clemson University: I am involved in two creative inquiry teams, on the executive board of my sorority Delta Zeta, on the executive board of Clemson Miracle, and an employee at '55 Exchange which is our campus ice cream shop.
Orange or purple?: Purple
If I could travel anywhere: Switzerland! It looks like the most beautiful place to hike and explore or even snowboard at during the winter.
My favorite Clemson class: My favorite class I have taken at Clemson was an honors seminar called Positively Human with Dr. Pilcher. This was a small seminar with me and eight other students where we read books, listened to lectures, and made projects about mindfulness, bias, and other traits of being human. It was such a unique class and taught me so many life skills I still use today. I loved the content that Dr. Pilcher taught us and ended up joining her Creative Inquiry team the following semester which I am still a part of.
Favorite place on campus: I love to study at Cooper Library, especially the fifth floor because of the Starbucks and the cubby desks.
Three interesting facts about me: I was a rower for seven years, I have two dogs and a cat, and I have ran a half marathon.
How has the Honors College made a difference in your life?: The Honors College has given me so many opportunities to further my education, both within my major and beyond it with seminars about subjects I would've never learned about otherwise. It has also introduced me to so many other students who have become my closest friends, especially since I lived in the Honors Residential College my freshman year.
