Introduction: Hi everyone! My name is Emily Carey and I am a sophomore Mechanical Engineering student from northern New Jersey. I am so excited to be serving as an Honors Ambassador! At Clemson, I am a Calculus II PAL leader, an Honors Mentor for incoming freshmen, a volunteer for ClemsonLIFE, a member of Clemson’s women’s ministry called “Delight,” and a new member of Alpha Phi sorority. My goal is to use my Mechanical Engineering degree to pursue a career in the aerospace industry, focusing on aircraft development.
Ask me about...: My favorite activities, workout classes, and study spots at Clemson!
My advice for prospective students: Do not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone because it is oftentimes those decisions that lead to the best outcomes! My first year at Clemson has been the most enjoyable year of my life. Although moving from New Jersey was a big change, Clemson has proven to be the best decision I could have made.
My advice for current students: Try to learn something new everyday! Whether it’s big or small, embrace every opportunity to learn and grow, both inside and outside the classroom. Stepping out of your routine and seeking new experiences will not only expand your knowledge but create some of the best memories.
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: When I toured Clemson my senior year of high school, I immediately fell in love! I chose Clemson’s Honors College because of the supportive environment that embodies academic excellence and fosters personal growth. I also loved how Clemson’s Engineering program allows freshmen students to take General Engineering courses, exposing new students to various engineering disciplines.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: The community! I made some of my best friends living in Deschamps Hall my freshman year.
My involvement in the Honors College: I serve as an Honors Ambassador and Honors Mentor for incoming freshmen.
My involvement in Clemson University: I'm a Calculus II PAL leader, a volunteer for ClemsonLIFE, a member of Clemson’s women’s ministry called “Delight,” involved in the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and a member of Alpha Phi sorority.
Three things I cannot live without: My water bottle, family, and online shopping (specifically Amazon Prime).
My spirit animal: My spirit animal is a cat. Cats are independent, curious, and loving which are all qualities that I admire and try to embody in my own life.
My favorite Clemson class: My favorite Clemson class has been Engineering 2080 which teaches students Solidworks. It challenged me to think creatively and improved my technical skills, giving me confidence in my ability to create just about anything.
What makes me happy to be alive: Driving during sunset, with the windows down, listening to music with my friends!
Favorite place on campus: I love spending time at the Amphitheater or getting work done outside of Starbucks at Core Campus.
Three interesting facts about me: I am a twin I met the Grumpy Cat My first concert was Big Time Rush
My future goals: I want to complete undergraduate research, work for an amazing aerospace company, travel around Europe, keep learning new things, and, most importantly, be happy!
