Introduction: Hi everyone! My name is Julia Cate! I am currently a business major and philosophy minor. I love traveling to new places, photography, Clemson game days, and meeting new people! After graduation, my hope is to either attend law school or pursue a career path under a Fortune 500 company.
Ask me about...: Ask me about the best places to take pictures in Clemson or the Ready, Set, Roar! program!
My advice for prospective students: Trust your gut! College is all about your potential and big changes, so choose the place where you feel like you will learn and grow the most as a person.
My advice for current students: Don't be afraid to try new things! You never know what great experiences and memories might come from opportunities that might seem intimidating at first.
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: I chose Clemson's Honors College because of the amount of praise and love for the program from both students and alumni. Not one negative thing could be said about the Honors College, from the living space, faculty, and learning programs, the Honors College exceeds its reputation, making it a natural choice for any prospective students.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: My favorite thing about the Honors College is the environment. Both students and faculty here push you to reach your potential, both academically and as a person. The emphasis here on well being, whether that be physical or mental, is so encouraging and truly creates a welcoming space for you as as student to strive to be your best.
My involvement in the Honors College: I can always be found at the tabling events hosted by the Honors College's Wellness Ambassadors or studying in the Honors library!
My involvement in Clemson University: I am currently an ambassador for Clemson's Orientation program, better known as Ready, Set, Roar! I have the amazing opportunity to work with incoming students this summer and guide them through their freshmen experience while representing my school! I also work closely with Clemson's Enrollment Management team through the Orientation program's Social Media and Marketing Committee. In addition, I am involved with Clemson's Asian Student Association as well as a few other academic and volunteer organizations!
My favorite Clemson class: My favorite Clemson class was most definitely the Honors seminar, "Race, Medicine, and Modern Imperialism." It really brought me out of my comfort zone through the use of individual, student lead presentations on both historical and modern medical conflicts that have shaped our image of public health today. It was enlightening experience that helped the class to understand the role medical and corporate professionals play in health structures around the world, as well as encouraging us to take initiative and contribute to global change, even before our careers are established. I would highly recommend this course to any student, regardless of their major!
What makes me happy to be alive: My happiest moment was the day I traveled to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway with my best friends. We rode the tram about 8,516 feet in the air to the top of Mt. San Jacinto and were able to hike in the snow all day. I have never seen such a gorgeous sunset or the skyline of the desert at night. It is currently on my bucket list to visit again!
My future goals: In no particular order, some of my future goals are to conduct a research or volunteer project outside of the U.S., skydive at least once, explore a lagoon at night, and swim with sharks!
What did you do this summer?: I had the opportunity to work as an instructor at the Sylvan Learning Center this past summer. In both large groups and individually, I worked with children in elementary and middle school by creating curriculums and learning experiences to help students excel in various academic fields!
What are your plans after graduation?: After graduation, my hope is to travel for a few months before jumping backing into school. I would love to attend law school or pursue a career up North!
How has the Honors College made a difference in your life?: The Honors College has provided me with so many opportunities to grow as a person and student. With all of the opportunities made available to study outside of Clemson, pursue internships, or conduct research projects with faculty here, the Honors College has shed light to the many paths a student can take to expand their network and skillset. Clemson's Honors College has really fostered an welcoming space to learn and I am nothing but grateful to be apart of such an incredible community!
