Introduction: Hi, my name is Nathan Thomas and I am a current first-year here at Clemson. I am from Charleston, SC and I am majoring in Health Sciences: Pre-Professional Health Studies. My main interests are in watching American and English Football, and also just being outside whether that be spikeball, pickleball, or going to FCA with my friends. My future goal is to go to Medical School and one day become a Pediatric Oncologist.
Ask me about...: Ask me about anything ranging from Honors workload, class registration, all the way to application process for medical school or just about any of my interests or clubs, those being the MedEx Club, FCA, and also Bible study groups on campus.
My advice for prospective students: My advice for prospective students hoping to go to Clemson would be to make the most of any college tour or activity you have before coming to college. Clemson was not my first choice until I came and met with a Honors Student Ambassador and everything changed. I fell in love with the people and the campus all because I asked a few questions and was able to meet 1 on 1 with another student. So please, there is no trouble if you reach out and ask to meet because we would be more than happy to show you the wonderful aspects of where we call home.
My advice for current students: My advice for current students would be to stop caring about the social norms or stereotypes that you have to fit into. My first worry coming to college was that I wasn’t going to fit in. But after the first day where everyone was so kind and everyone on my floor got to know each other, it all started to make my college experience so much better. The funniest part about it was that not a single person I met had my major or liked that things that I did.
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: My reason is because I met with a Honors Student Ambassador and he gave me the real details that no other college was able to give me. I felt like I truly connected with a place and a people. Clemson also had my major and the perfect small town/college town feel that I had been looking for.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: My favorite thing about the honors college would definitely be the housing. I am a very warm person, meaning I hate the cold, and on days where it is 18 degrees outside, being able to walk completely indoors to get all my meals is a life saver.
My involvement in Clemson University: My involvement with Clemson has been a big part of why I love it here. I have been able to get active in FCA, a small group, the MedEx club, and so much more. These groups have helped me to find new friends and branch out of my comfort zone. This involvement has changed me for the better as a person.
Orange or purple?: Both
My spirit animal: Winnie the Pooh, I love sleep and food.
My favorite Clemson class: Health Systems: Showed me that the healthcare system is crazy and in a lot of cases, corrupt. The only way to change that is if you do something about it.
How has the Honors College made a difference in your life?: It has helped me to see that there are so many different opportunities out there, I just have to step up and take the action to ask to be a part of them.
