Introduction: Hey! My name is Ryan Meyer and I am from Simpsonville, South Carolina! I am currently pursuing a dual degree in economics and management. Some of my interests include spending time with family and friends, reading, playing and watching sports, and learning new things. I have started my Master of Science in Economic Analytics and plan on graduating with this degree in May 2026. I will begin working at TD Bank in the summer of 2025 and am interested in pursuing my PhD in Economics in the near future as well.
Ask me about...: You can ask me about how I came to call Clemson my home, my favorite places on campus, my favorite things to do at Clemson, Clemson Wesley, Clemson’s Honors College, and how to get involved in campus organizations and research.
My advice for prospective students: My advice for prospective students is to find a place that feels like home to you and to not be afraid to ask questions. College is a big change from high school and marks the beginning of the next chapter in your life - it is important to find a place that is a good school academically but is also a good fit for you.
My advice for current students: My advice for current students is to enjoy the time you have at Clemson while you have it. You never know what tomorrow may bring and time is precious. These are memories and friendships that you will have and cherish for the rest of your life so it is so important to be an active student at Clemson rather than just attending classes. Take advantage of the opportunities in front of you.
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: I chose Clemson Honors and Clemson University as a school largely due to the sense of family that I felt when I came to campus when I was applying to different colleges. The Honors College at Clemson is incredibly tight-knit and had the research opportunities and structure that I wanted in an honors college. As a whole school, the students of Clemson really made the student population feel like one big family, which is something I did not see at any other school I visited.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: My favorite thing about the Honors College are the connections that the Honors College provides. Whether it be through the variety of classes or organizations you can join or the research opportunities available, these connections are incredibly worthwhile and have transformed my experience at Clemson.
My involvement in the Honors College: I was in Eureka! virtually in 2021 and was the head in-person counselor of Eureka! in 2022. I have pursued general and departmental honors within the Honors College, am an Honors College Student Ambassador, and have been able to conduct research through connections made within the Honors College.
My involvement in Clemson University: Outside of the Honors College, I am involved in Clemson Wesley, am a member of the Management Student Advisory Board, am a member of Phi Kappa Phi, am a teaching assistant for the College of Business (particularly BUS 3010), intern in the Event Operations Department within the Athletic Department, and am a research assistant at the Hayek Center for the Business of Prosperity.
Orange or purple?: Purple
If I could travel anywhere: I would travel to Iceland to see the Northern lights!
My spirit animal: My spirit animal is a penguin because like me, they are very free-spirited and happy in their lives.
My favorite Clemson class: My favorite Clemson class that I have taken is an honors seminar called Imaginary Friends in Fiction. This class has a smaller class size and the discussion in the class is incredibly thought-provoking and interesting!
Favorite place on campus: I am almost always in the Honors College, the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business, or a study room in Watt!
Three interesting facts about me: I have traveled to eight countries, am really good at building drinking straw towers that hold tennis balls at the top, and played volleyball in high school.
How has the Honors College made a difference in your life?: The Honors College has made a difference in my life through the education that I have received and the friendships that I have made within Honors. My education has become more personal through the Honors College and I have formed great relationships with Honors staff and professors. The connections that I have made through the Honors College are ones that I know will last a lifetime.
