Introduction: Hi! My name is Blythe Bacon, and I am a junior Health Sciences (Pre-Professional Health Studies concentration) major and Public Policy and Life Sciences double minor from Greenville, NC. I am on the pre-med route and plan to pursue a Master of Public Health before attending medical school. My ultimate career goal is to become a physician who works in rural and global health. Outside the classroom, I love hiking, traveling, and cheering on the Tigers in Death Valley!
Ask me about...: Study abroad opportunities! I have already completed two programs and will be going to France, Spain, and Switzerland this summer!
My advice for prospective students: I recommend researching courses at Clemson that best align with your major and interests and seeing how Honors courses and early registration can best support your future academic career!
My advice for current students: Make sure to utilize all the extra perks you get as an Honors student! Whether receiving Honors advising, hearing from insightful speakers, or attending performances at the Brooks Center with your free student ticket, there are many opportunities to enrich your Clemson experience!
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: I was drawn to Clemson because it has a variety of academic and career programs, similar to other major universities, while also having a small-town feel and traditions like no other. My acceptance into the Honors College was a fortifying factor in my decision to attend Clemson University, considering its extra resources, tight-knit community, residential hall, and national recognition.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: I love how the Honors College invests in the overall well-being of its students. There are specific resources only available to Honors students, such as the Honors Wellness Ambassador program and the Honors Peer Mentor program, which encourage students to exchange advice, reflect, and relax. Early registration also helps relieve students' stress from class scheduling. Lastly, the Honors Advisors truly care about the student's success and are very accessible.
My involvement in the Honors College: I have served as an Honors Peer Mentor for the past two years and built such genuine relationships with my mentees. I have participated in two Dixon Fellows Programs - Bollywood & Beyond and The Nexus of Art & Anatomy. I am also in the Health Sciences Departmental Honors program and look forward to researching alongside a Clemson faculty member.
My involvement in Clemson University: Outside the Honors College, I serve as the Eta Sigma Gamma (health education honor society) Vice President and the Delta Gamma Director of Alumnae Relations. I am also a member of Phi Delta Epsilon (medical fraternity) and Clemson EMS Club.
If I could travel anywhere: I would go to Portugal to visit its national parks.
