Introduction: Hi! My name is Sofie Plasencia and I am a sophomore nursing major from Miami, Florida. I love to get involved, hang out with my friends, and travel! As of right now, my goal is to work in the ICU (intensive care unit), preferably the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit), for about two years after college and the apply to CRNA (certified nurse anesthetist) school. I am looking forward to sharing my goals and involvements and meeting you!
Ask me about...: I am involved in several things on campus, such as the Clemson University Guide Association, Honors College, Zeta Tau Alpha, Student Nurses' Association, and CUSG Greek Affairs. I have found a love for getting involved at Clemson, and have met so many amazing individuals both in and out of my major. I highly recommend getting as involved as possible and finding your home away from home.
My advice for prospective students: My advice for prospective students is to find a place where you feel like you can make a difference and really thrive in. It may be difficult to see yourself in a place where you may not know anyone, but I promise that leap of faith may be the best decision you have ever made. Find a place that is going to be your home away from home, and I promise everything will work out.
My advice for current students: My advice for current students is to step out of your comfort zone. Apply for something you don't feel like you will get into or get selected for, who knows? You just might. Attend a club meeting for a club you are passionate about and actually enjoy. Do things that are going to make your time here at Clemson memorable.
Why I chose Clemson and the Honors College: I chose Clemson University because I found my home away from home and feel in love with a place that has so much promise and opportunity to offer. I chose the Honors College because I wanted to find a smaller community within Clemson, and that is exactly what the Honors College feels like.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: My favorite thing about the Honors College is that it is not an added pressure on my academics or my life overall, instead it simply provides me with numerous resources that can facilitate so many aspects of my college experience. Also, the added attention and accessibility of the faculty make me feel more than just a random face in the crowd.
My involvement in the Honors College: Within the Honors College I am an Honors College Ambassador. I applied for this because I wanted the opportunity to learn more about the resources available to me, and to be able to speak with prospective students and really make a difference.
My involvement in Clemson University: My involvement in Clemson has been life-changing and full of variety. I am so grateful for the opportunities that I have had to become involved, as well as the doors these involvements have opened for me. For instance, I have become involved in a Creative Inquiry called "Advocacy for Nursing" and it has been eye-opening for me to see how I can advocate for my patients in the real-world.
If I could travel anywhere: I would go to anywhere in Europe because I have visited before and have absolutely fallen in love with the culture, food and architecture. My brain simply cannot comprehend how the architecture was built and still remains, and the amount of art and beauty
What am I most thankful for this year?: I am most thankful for the amount of opportunities I have had and how they have been so beneficial to not only defining my experiences but enhancing them as well.
Favorite place on campus: My favorite place on campus is the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business. I think it is a beautiful building with so many resources and beautiful places to study and get work done.
My future goals:
What did you do this summer?: I worked with my mom and her jewelry company. I helped her with the marketing and social media side of things, as well as helping her at pop-up shops and farmer's markets. I also visited the Cayman Islands with my family.
