Make a Financial Gift

Through philanthropic gifts to the Department of Chemistry, you allow us to keep our research and teaching facilities up to date, recruit and retain excellent and diverse faculty and students, develop literacy in the community and broader society, support new discovery and learning initiatives, and create a welcoming and accepting environment for all. Your support also helps provide inquiry-based experiences for our students, send students to research field sites and conferences where they conduct and communicate their research, bring hands-on learning activities to the community, and so much more.

Support Our Commitment

We hope you will support our commitment to all Tigers who pass through our doors. Please use the button below to make a financial gift to the department. Gifts may be designated for specific funds by choosing the desired designation on the giving page.

Opportunities for Giving

Giving funds may be designated for any of the below options by selecting the appropriate designation on the giving page.

Chemistry Enhancement Fund

Our highest priority is to build this foundation account to support excellence in the research, teaching and community engagement missions of the Department of Chemistry. Funds are used to support student activities and awards, special events to celebrate accomplishments, and educational priorities. As an example, we invite chemists in higher education and industry to present and discuss their work, which helps illuminate chemistry for our students and expand our collaborative opportunities.

Chemistry Fund for Undergraduate Research

Exposing undergraduate students to undergraduate research is critical. They work alongside graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty, learning how laboratory science works successfully. The skills they develop serve them as they begin work in industry, government labs, and/or continue on to a terminal degree. This fund was made possible through gifts made in memory of Richard Stockel ’62, the first Ph.D. to graduate from the department, and one of the first two Ph.D.’s awarded at Clemson. Stockel worked under the late John Huffman, Ph.D. and went on to a long career in industry.

Howard L. Hunter Memorial Endowment in Chemistry

This unrestricted fund allows for multiple uses in the department. It was established by Mr. and Mrs. Walter D. Moss Jr., in memory of Howard L. Hunter, Ph.D., who taught Walter Moss freshmen chemistry in 1930. Walter Moss earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry in 1934.

James E. Land Unrestricted Chemistry Quasi-Endowment

This unrestricted fund allows for multiple uses in the department. It was established by gifts from the estate of James E. Land, Ph.D., ’35. Land went on to earn a master’s degree at Tulane, and a Ph.D. at UNC Chapel Hill.

Dr. Frederick S. Mandel ’78 Unrestricted Endowment for Excellence In Chemistry

This unrestricted fund allows for multiple uses in the department. It was established in memory of Fred Mandel who earned his Ph.D. in 1978. We are grateful for his mother, Doris Mandel, for giving to create this fund.
