Prospective, Admitted, or Current Graduate Students Seeking Assistantships and Fellowships
Select graduate programs and administrative units at Clemson University offer graduate assistantships or fellowships. If you’re interested in applying, check with your academic program’s department to determine if there will be openings or nominations for upcoming semesters. Some programs post their positions online on their own websites, or you can inquire directly with your department’s graduate program coordinator. A few assistantships, usually those open to students in one of several programs, are posted on the Clemson JobLink site.
The Division of Students Affairs almost exclusively hires graduate students who enroll in the M.Ed. in Student Affairs program. To learn more about the process, timeline, and available positions, visit the CU-GARS website. To inquire if there are any positions available to students enrolling in other programs, please contact Student Affairs Business Operations; 656-5827.

Salary Breakdown
Graduate students provided a Graduate Assistantship through the Division of Student Affairs will be provided an annual stipend as follows:
- First Year Graduate Assistant Stipend Range: $10 - $12 per hour
- Second Year Graduate Assistant Stipend Range: $13 - $15 per hour
Individual stipend amount and conditions of renewal are determined by specified department head and are based upon tenure of the student (years in program), complexity of job responsibilities, and availability of supplemental funds. Graduate Assistantship support is negotiated by prospective students with specified department so long as the hourly wage does not exceed stipend range.
First Year Graduate Assistants may begin working the Monday prior to the first day of classes of the Fall semester. Exceptions will be made based on need and availability of departmental funds; a minimum of two (2) months prior to the first day of classes will be required. Assistantship stipends will not begin until the Monday prior to first day of classes; therefore, it is the department’s responsibility for ensuring the budget is available to compensate the individual as an intermittent employee, if approved.
