Plan

The Plan Stage includes the design of the Foundation Data Model (FDM) that Clemson will use across human capital management, payroll, supply chain and financials. This establishes the foundation for Workday@Clemson transaction processing and reporting.

Architect and Configure

The Architect & Configure Stage – the longest stage in the Workday@Clemson implementation process – focuses on integration design and development to ensure that the new system accurately addresses Clemson’s business requirements. Human Resources, Finance, and IT workstreams, as well as Campus User Groups and other Clemson stakeholders, will participate in Discovery, Design, and Confirmation Sessions; Deloitte Consulting LLP will build a Foundation Tenant, or Workday instance, using Clemson’s FDM structure and preliminary data; and all Workday@Clemson teams will leverage Confirmation Sessions to share their work and solicit feedback from other Program Team members, Campus User Groups, and key University stakeholders.

Test

In the Test Stage, rigorous reviews of the new Workday@Clemson system will pressure test our new, streamlined HR and Finance processes to identify opportunities for improvement before go live occurs. During this time, campuswide training will be finalized and prepped to share with Clemson faculty, staff and student workers in advance of go live.

Deploy

For the Deploy Stage, Workday@Clemson training will be rolled out to faculty, staff and student workers in preparation for go-live. Once the new system is officially launched, training and “hypercare” will remain available to assist Clemson with the exciting transition to modern, streamlined HR and Finance processes.

Foundation Data Model

In 2024, the Foundation Data Model (FDM) blueprint was completed. The FDM provides the foundation for transaction processing and reporting for Workday@Clemson.

Discovery Sessions

To ensure there was a shared understanding of current processes and pain points, Discovery Sessions were held in the Fall of 2024. During these sessions, Deloitte heard from over 250 Clemson staff and faculty about how administrative work in 19 HR and Finance functional areas. This understanding and discovery allowed Deloitte to think about how to best configure Workday to meet Clemson’s business requirements. Over 49 sessions were held, and more than 300 discovery items were logged.

Following Discovery Sessions, the Design session began in November 2024. During these sessions, which continue through Spring of 2025, Clemson HR and finance leaders, Clemson users and Deloitte are partnering to make decisions about how to streamline processes and still meet Clemson’s HR and Finance needs.
