Eligibility and Application Process
Regular Membership
- All retired faculty of Clemson University who have received the title of emeritus or emerita faculty are eligible to become regular members of the College. After contacting Clemson University's Human Resources Department to complete paperwork, please contact the Emeritus College to provide your CV, date of retirement, and necessary data to initiate the seamless transition into the Emeritus College.
- All other retired faculty of Clemson University who have served at least 5 years at the University and 15 years in the academic profession may, upon request, become regular members of the College. After contacting Clemson University Human Resources, please send your CV to the Emeritus College to initiate the Director's review for membership eligibility.
All emeritus faculty benefits accrue immediately upon becoming a member of the Emeritus College faculty.
Associate Membership
Emeritus Faculty from other universities. These individuals may request membership as an associate member if they meet the overall EC requirements of receiving emeritus status at their primary institution. The process requires a nomination letter from a CU faculty or emeritus faculty member, a letter of interest in membership, and a curriculum vitae, submitted to and approval by the Executive Committee and Advisory Board.
Affiliate Membership
Clemson University individuals with teaching, research, or service careers that are congruent with the mission of the University and the Emeritus College, who have 5 years of service at Clemson University and 15 in the academic profession may be nominated to become affiliate members. The process requires a nomination letter from a CU employee with faculty rank or a nomination by a current member of the Emeritus College, a CV, and a letter describing their fit with the university mission and potential involvement with the Emeritus College. With the approval of the Director and Advisory Board, the nominee will be invited to membership by the Director. Affiliate members may participate in all functions of the College but may not vote or hold office.
Honorary Membership
An individual not reflected in the previous categories and who significantly contributes to the EC mission and whose important, substantial contributions move the college forward. The process requires a nomination and recommendation letter submitted by a member of the Emeritus College. With the recommendation of the Executive committee and approval by the Advisory Board, an nominated individual will become an honorary member.
