Student Health Services

Eligibility

Students enrolled at Clemson University, University employees injured on the job and legal spouses of Clemson students are eligible for treatment at Redfern Health Center.

Eligibility for Students/Spouses Not Currently Enrolled

  1. Following their graduation, graduates and their spouses who have not purchased the University Student Health Insurance are eligible to use the services of Redfern until the first day of the next semester (maintaining their current fee-paid or non-fee-paid status). Graduates and their spouses who purchased the University Student Health Insurance are eligible to use the services up to the end of their insurance benefit eligibility on a non-fee-paid status. This includes students who purchase the three-month continuation coverage of the Student Health Insurance Plan.

  2. When a student withdraws from the University, eligibility for services for student and spouse ends. However, a grace period of up to 30 days is available to allow for transfer of care. During this 30-day period, student and spouse will maintain pre-withdrawal status of non-fee-paid or fee-paid if the student's health fee was not refunded by the University. Exception: withdrawn students and their spouses who purchased the University Student Health Insurance are eligible to use medical services up to the end of their insurance benefit eligibility on a non-fee-paid status. The student/spouse may be referred to an outside psychologist/psychiatrist if the needs of the patient exceed the capacity of CAPS to provide the needed services.

  3. Students and their spouses who begin their coverage of the Student Health Insurance Plan in early August and May, prior to the start of the semester eligibility, may receive services on a non-fee-paid basis until the semester eligibility begins.

  4. Students not currently enrolled and their spouses are not eligible to use the services during the regular academic year (fall/spring semesters), except as defined above by items 1, 2 and 3. Students in Co-op programs or internships for University credit are considered enrolled students and may receive services on either a fee-paid or non-fee-paid basis.

  5. Continuing students not enrolled in summer school and their spouses are eligible to use the services during the summer semester. Continuing students who are not enrolled may elect to add the summer health fee by having the fee added to the Redfern Health Center bill. Students who graduate in the spring but are accepted for the fall, are eligible to receive services as a continuing student.

  6. Bridge students who are transitioning from their Bridge year at Tri-County Technical College to Clemson University are considered a continuing student during the summer semester and may elect to have the health fee added to their Redfern Health Center bill.
