Sean Brittain began his tenure as an Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Learning on June 1, 2023. He is committed to building partnerships across campus in an effort to deliver the No. 1 Student Experience. Brittain is passionate about integrating research and other creative endeavors with education. Prior to moving into this role, he served as the Department Chair of Physics and Astronomy where he has been a member of the faculty since March 2006.

As senior associate dean for undergraduate learning, Jeffrey Appling develops curriculum, manages academic eligibility, oversees academic integrity and academic grievances, and serves as the campus Shell Answer Man on academic matters. His primary faculty appointment is full professor in Engineering and Science Education.

As associate dean for undergraduate learning, Brian Dominy supports faculty in their development and implementation of the General Education curriculum, and partners with faculty and staff to support other university-wide curricular components. He also supports undergraduate students, staff, and faculty in the development and implementation of numerous programs and practices to mitigate success gaps and opportunity gaps within the undergraduate student population. Through his faculty role, he continues to advise numerous doctoral students in the field of computational biophysical chemistry. He also supports the College of Science in the annual assessment of undergraduate and graduate programs as their liaison to the Office of Institutional Assessment.

Lisa Traynham

In her role as student services coordinator, Lisa Traynham assists students with medical withdrawals due to crisis, mental health and physical issues. She serves as a building security coordinator and assists students with the residency waiver so that students can graduate on time. She is also the service dog coordinator for service dogs in training.

As administrative assistant for undergraduate learning, Matthew provides flexible administrative and fiscal support, as well as student employee coordination. He supports the business manager by performing reconciliations, paying invoices and oversees the departmental asset tracking system. He manages student employees and provides administrative support to the areas of General Education Assessment, Bridge, Transfer, First Generation, Summer Start and more.

Alexa Richards serves as the Director of the Bridge to Clemson program and Transfer Programs. She works with campus partners as well as Tri-County Technical College to oversee orientation and onboarding initiatives, academic success, and academic recovery initiatives. As a former transfer student, she is passionate about helping people find their path toward academic success and personal growth. She strives to support students in reaching their highest potential and achieving their personal and professional goals. Alexa earned a Master of Science in College Student Personnel Services and Administration from the University of Central Arkansas, and a Bachelor of Science in Communications, Public Relations from Appalachian State University.

Mickayla Crumley is the Associate Director of Transfer Programs and is dedicated to supporting and empowering transfer students. As a low-income and first-generation college student, she struggled with navigating college. That experience inspired her to obtain an M.Ed in Counselor Education from Clemson University and pursue a career supporting college students in achieving their goals. She believes in meeting students where they are, supporting their goals, and empowering them to chart their own journeys.

A former student-athlete at Clemson University, Lombardi earned his degree in Science Teaching with a concentration in Biological Sciences while competing as a member of the track and field team. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University while working as a strength and conditioning coach with their varsity sports programs. Lombardi went on to earn an additional master’s degree in Counselor Education, and switched career paths seeking to further support the personal growth and development of young adults while working in the athletic academic services profession. Lombardi is currently the Sr. Associate AD for Academics at Clemson University where he leads the Athletic Academic Services department that provides programming and services to support its nearly 600 student-athletes.

Jeff Neal has been a leader of cooperative education at Clemson for over 20 years. In his role as director of the cooperative education program, he leads a team of co-op advisors and staff in developing partnerships with companies to host co-op students and monitoring the experiences of more than 1,000 co-op students each year. He also holds a faculty appointment as lecturer, serving as the instructor of record for numerous COOP courses, teaching Introduction to Cooperative Education.

In his role as Executive Director of the CCPD, O'Neil Burton, Ph.D. oversees the Michelin Career Center, the Cooperative Education program and the University Professional Internship & Co-op program (UPIC). He also enjoys teaching a few business and co-op courses each year.

Margaret earned her B.A. in philosophy and B.S. in psychology from Guilford College and her M.Ed. in school psychology from UNC Chapel Hill. She began her career working in North Carolina for a commission that bridged the UNC system with the governor's office to develop educational outcomes for K-12, and she worked for the Autism Research Center in Chapel Hill. Margaret joined SAS in August 2015. Her role as director involves leading a team of dedicated staff members who work to ensure that all students have access to Clemson University spaces, curricula and resources.

Sue Whorton, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of Student Support Services. Her portfolio includes undergraduate programs for learning support, academic coaching and academic advising. She has worked in higher education for over thirty years and at Clemson since 2000. Prior to her current position, Sue served as the Director of the Bridge to Clemson University Program. She has also held positions in Undergraduate Admissions, First-Year Student Success Programs, Transfer Student Programs, and Residence Life.

Sue earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Clemson University, a M.A. in Theological Studies from the University of Dayton, a M.A. in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Central Michigan University.
