Virginia Tech 2021
MS Horticulture
University of Florida 2016
Profile
Danyang Liu grew up in a small coastal city in northeastern China. He earned his M.S. in Horticulture from the University of Florida, studying oxygen fertilization to mitigate flooding damage in snap beans. He then pursued a Ph.D. in Horticulture at Virginia Tech, focusing on anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) for strawberry production while actively engaging in extension projects.
Previously, Danyang worked as a Plant Scientist and Site Manager at Zordi Inc., an autonomous greenhouse startup developing robotic harvesting and crop monitoring technologies. He contributed to importing novel strawberry cultivars, optimizing production protocols, and integrating AI-driven crop monitoring. Now at Clemson University, his research focuses on plant stress physiology, weed-crop interactions, and sustainable crop management.
