Profile

Jack is a semi-retired Extension Aquatic Specialist and Associate Professor Emeritus with Clemson University Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation and is stationed at the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science in Georgetown, SC. He was also a member of the SC Sea Grant Extension Program.

He has served in the dual role of pond management – aquatic plant management specialist and aquaculture specialist for the diverse South Carolina aquaculture industry for his entire 45 year career.

Jack is a member of numerous professional organizations including the World Aquaculture Society, United States Aquaculture Society, National Shellfisheries Association, the Aquatic Plant Management Society and SC Aquatic Plant Management Society.

He's has been Conference Chair of Aquaculture America, and an author, presenter, special session organizer and session chair at numerous state, national and international meetings.

He’s past president of the South Carolina Fisheries Workers Association, South Carolina Aquatic Plant Management Society and Clemson University Extension Senate. He has been a member of The Clemson University Athletic Council.

He's been a member of the Southern Regional Aquaculture Center Technical Committee for 25 years and was technical advisor to the SC Aquaculture Association, SC Shrimp Growers Association and the SC Shellfish Association. He annually presents a Special Session on Aquatic Plant Management at the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association. He is on the Board of Directors of the East Coast Shellfish Growers Association and the SC Seafood Alliance.

Jack has received two National USDA Awards as a member of Extension teams that established the first crop insurance in aquaculture and the EPA review of aquaculture discharge regulations.
