Profile

Maiya is a Tuskegee University alumna from Long Beach, CA. She earned her B.S. in Animal, Poultry and Veterinary Sciences in 2021 and her M.S. at Tuskegee University studying Environmental Science where she researched predator behavior responses to feral hogs in mesocarnivores specifically coyotes in 2024. She joined the FEC department in Dr. James Anderson's lab fall semester of 2024. Maiya's interests include wildlife conservation, predator ecology, predator-prey interactions, and wetland ecology. Maiya’s leadership and instructing background comes from her passion of teaching undergrads the importance of natural resources and conservation as president of the Natural Resource Conservation club and the Red Tails Ducks Unlimited chapter on campus while attending Tuskegee University. Prior to starting at Clemson she completed an AmeriCorps/ACE internship with the National Park Service at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with the education team mentoring high school interns during their 6 week internship exploring career options in the park service. Maiya is excited to start this new chapter in her life pursuing her PhD in Wildlife and Fisheries biology.
