External Affairs

Governmental Affairs

The primary responsibility of the Office of Governmental Affairs is leading the university in all facets of interaction with State and Federal government. This focus includes maximizing government investments in a deliberate and purposeful manner to support leadership-driven priorities and initiatives.

Accomplishment of this goal is driven by a team of professionals with government experience at the state and federal level and a deep, historical knowledge of South Carolina politics and funding trends.

Federal Relations

Federal Relations serves as the primary interface between Clemson University and members of the South Carolina Congressional Delegation, their staffs and agencies of the Federal government. We also connect policymakers with faculty, administrators and students, in an effort to advance Clemson’s programs with interests and potential connections with federal government and agencies.

State Relations

As a public university, approximately 11 percent of Clemson’s revenue is state-funded and subject to the S.C. General Assembly's annual budget approval. We make a clear list of each year’s budget priorities publicly available to show where we are headed and how we are prioritizing growth in training and research.

In accordance with our land grand-mission, the University is charged with establishing and monitoring extensive state regulations dealing with pest control, food safety and many other plant and animal health and safety issues. The Governmental Affairs team works directly with the Governor's Office, the General Assembly and state agencies on a regular basis to fulfill these responsibilities.
