Keeping Tigers Safe
Growing up on the Kanha Tiger Reserve in central India, Hrishita Negi Ph.D. ’25 learned to appreciate the power and beauty of tigers. As a doctoral student in wildlife and fisheries biology, she co-developed TrailGuard AI, a groundbreaking camera system that uses artificial intelligence to track tigers in real time.
“Since tiger reserves are inviolate spaces, created in a way that excludes human disturbances, the corridors between reserves are the perfect places to set up our system.”
Now the associate director of Tigers United at Clemson University, Negi combines research and outreach to broaden conservation efforts, engage communities and reduce human-wildlife conflict.
