Email Accessibility
Email accessibility becomes especially important when sending mass communications, newsletters, and marketing emails. Regardless of your preferred email client, consider the following, especially when communicating with large or unknown audiences.
- Add alternative text to images. Mark decorative images accordingly.
- Ensure attachments are accessible. Note that alternative text cannot be provided for an attached image. In these cases, provide a text alternative in the email.
- Use strong color contrast. Avoid relying on color alone to convey meaning.
- Use descriptive link text.
- Avoid justified text.
- Add headings, lists and tables appropriately to structure complex emails like newsletters.
- Some HTML email templates use tables for layout. In these cases, tables should be marked as decorative. Review the underlying HTML and ensure table elements have a presentation role:
