Profile
In addition to my duties as a Professor of Entomology working on insects important in cotton and soybeans, I currently serve as Associate Department Chair for PES. I work at the Edisto Research and Education Center located near Blackville, SC. My primary responsibilities include development of a comprehensive Research (60%) and Extension (40%) program that benefits South Carolina cotton and soybean producers. I am responsible for maintaining current and objective knowledge and expertise in cotton and soybean insect management in South Carolina and refining pest management strategies. I direct graduate students, post-doctoral associates, temporary workers, and technical support staff.
Research Interests
I am a Research/Extension Entomologist emphasizing principles of IPM, specifically those involving insect management in cotton and soybeans. I am continuing to develop a comprehensive research and Extension program that evaluates new strategies along with existing approaches for managing important agricultural insect pests - a program that focuses on acquiring knowledge and understanding of pest management techniques through cooperative applied research efforts and promptly educating stakeholders. Current research interests include refinement of monitoring methods and treatment thresholds for hemipteran pests in cotton and soybeans, evaluation of new insecticide chemistries and delivery systems, alternative control strategies for important insects, and collaboration with researchers on other potential methods of detecting insect pests.
Extension and Outreach
My Extension duties include but are not limited to presenting data concerning management strategies for pestiferous insects in agriculture at meetings, offering trainings for Extension agents, producers, consultants, etc., making field visits to identify and offer solutions to insect problems, writing and distributing during the summer months a weekly newsletter addressing issues with insects important in cotton and soybeans. Archived newsletters can be viewed at:
http://www.clemson.edu/extension/agronomy/crops/cotton.html

I also use X (formerly Twitter) to send out quick news about important insects. I can be followed at: @bugdocisin
