Profile

Ms. Madrid has always been fascinated by science. She is coming from a long lineage of rice farmers in Central Luzon, Philippines. She worked at Philippine Rice Research Institute where she helped develop new rice lines through anther culture. She was also involved in heat-tolerance breeding in rice using marker-assisted selection. She was part of the team that developed the first heat-tolerant rice variety in the Philippines. Currently, Ms. Madrid is pursuing her Ph.D. in Crop Science in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at Clemson University. Her Ph.D. research focuses on cover crop inter-seeding in organic corn production systems.
