Video and Audio

Video and Audio

Video and audio can be effective modalities for conveying information. To help make that information available to everyone, ensure videos are accurately captioned and text alternatives for audio are available. Additionally, avoid content that starts automatically or flashes rapidly.

The following considerations apply to prerecorded video and audio, where the media is not an alternative for text.

Multimedia Video

Multimedia videos (with audio) require accurate, synchronized captions. When important information is presented in a video through only a visual means, audio descriptions are also required.

When publishing videos, consider incorporating American Sign Language (ASL) to provide a richer experience for people who sign.

Audio-Only Media

Audio-only content, like a podcast, requires an equivalent alternative, i.e., a transcript.

Video-Only Media

Videos without any audio require an equivalent alternative: either a transcript or audio track.
