State Insurance Plan Options
SC Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) provides a robust group plan for Eligible Employees (PDF).
Your comprehensive insurance benefits package includes the ability to enroll in medical, dental, and vision benefits, as well as life and disability benefits and tax-free spending accounts for you and your eligible dependents.
Your Monthly premiums are determined by the level of coverage elected.
Group Health Plans
Employees may choose between two employer/employee-paid health insurance plans provided by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. The State Health Plan: Savings Plan has a high deductible with low premiums, and the State Health Plan: Standard Plan has a lower deductible with higher premiums. Both plans include prescription coverage.
Military subscribers can choose the separate TRICARE Supplement Plan.
COBRA will be offered to eligible employees and dependents when experiencing a qualifying event that makes them no longer eligible for coverage.
Life and Disability
A no-cost Basic Life Insurance policy valued at $3,000 is provided for employees enrolled in a State Health Plan. Employees may also enroll in Optional Life Insurance coverage up to a policy maximum of $500,000. Spouse and child policies are also available. (Medical review is required for select policies.)
A no-cost Basic Long-Term Disability (LTF) policy is provided for employees enrolled in a State Health Plan. This basic policy may provide a maximum benefit of up to $800 per month after 90 calendar days of disability. Supplemental coverage that replaces up to 65% of monthly salary (with a maximum benefit of $8,000 per month) is also available.
Tax-Favored Accounts
Tax-favored programs allow employees to save money on eligible medical and dependent-care costs. These accounts allow you to pay for eligible expenses with funds deducted from your salary before it is taxed. Your enrollment in a state health plan will determine which tax-free spending accounts you are eligible to participate. Some tax favored accounts may be COBRA eligible.
