Entering Grades
Entering grades accurately and on-time is an important part of your role as an instructor. Whether you're experiencing issues in iROAR, seeking candidate or non-candidate-specific information, or you simply need to reference the upcoming dates and deadlines for grade entry, you can explore this page to find key information and proactive tips to help you approach the grade entry process with confidence and ease.
Steps to Prepare for Grade Entry
At Clemson University, we're committed to delivering the number one student experience per Clemson Elevate, our bold strategic plan — and that means providing students with accurate grades to gauge their progress and determine the next steps in their academic journey.
Browse the information below to learn more about grade entry — identify important deadlines for candidate and non-candidate students, and discover actionable steps that you can implement in your grade entry process this semester!
Step One: Review Candidate Grade Entry Deadlines
Planning ahead to enter grades on time is important as we strictly enforce the deadlines for both candidates and non-candidates. (See important dates and deadlines in the Academic Calendar after the tips below.)
- Please note the specific deadlines for graduation Candidate grades, which are different from the deadlines for Other Non-Candidate grades.
- When possible, please submit grades early for graduate research credits and courses that do not require a final examination. This helps us tremendously during grade collection process and typically affects 8910 and 9910 courses.
Step Two: Ensure all Grades are Entered
- Be sure to look for the green bar in the top left indicating that you have successfully submitted all grades.
- You do not need to worry about the Rolled indicator. That will update once the Registrar’s Office finishes processing grades.
- Both the candidate and non-candidate grade systems will be turned off while grades are processed.
- When grades are processed (rolled to Academic History), any grades that have been entered will be processed and become visible to students.
Candidate-Specific Tips
- When you are ready to enter candidate grades, you can sort each grade entry page by candidates by double-clicking the arrow in the Candidate column heading.
- You will need to perform the sort on every results page — iROAR will not bring all candidates to the top for the entire document.
Step Three: Review Your Class Rosters for Accuracy
- If you have students who are attending, but are not listed on your class roll, please reach out to your registration coordinator.
- You must send the necessary information (CID, subject, course number, section) to your registration coordinator.
- They will process the add on your behalf through the Enrollment Manager tool.
- If you have students on your class roll that stopped attending during the appropriate drop dates, please go to iROAR > Faculty/Advisor Self-Service > Registration Correction Form.
- You can use the form to drop a student after the published deadlines or to change the section in which a student is registered.
- Please remember: if you send a form during the drop period, it will be returned to you.

Assigning F and I Grades
When entering F and I grades, you must also enter a last date of attendance for each student. This step is required to ensure that all grade entries are in compliance with federal financial aid regulations.
The last day of attendance is defined as the student’s participation in an academically related activity, such as:
- Class
- Examinations or quizzes
- Tutorials
- Computer-assisted instruction
- Academic conferences with the professor
- Submission of an academic assignment, paper, or project
- A study group required by the professor where attendance is taken
Troubleshooting Known Issues with F/I Grades
If you do not enter the last date of attendance for the relevant student(s) while assigning F and I grades, you will get an error code in iROAR indicating an empty field. You'll also need to re-enter the correct F and I grades as this information will not be saved in the system.
If this happens, you can reach out to grade entry support via email to get help removing the error. Please be sure to include the following information:
- Course CRN
- Clemson Student IDs
- Last date of attendance for each student
Missing Grade Entry Deadlines
All missing grades are rolled to history as NG (No Grade) after grade entry deadlines.
If you miss the grade entry deadline, you must submit a grade correction for each student to change their NG to a letter grade. (If you have a class of 100 students and the grade-entry deadline has passed and grades have rolled to history, you will need to submit a grade correction for each of the 100 students.)

Grade Corrections
If you enter a grade into the system incorrectly, or miss the grade entry deadline altogether, you can use the Grade Correction Workflow in iROAR to fix your issue. You may also use the Grade Correction Workflow to change an incomplete grade to a final grade. To find it, log into your iROAR account and go to 〉 Faculty/Advisor Self-Service 〉 Grade Correction!
You have several options when altering grades in the Grade Correction Workflow. These options include:
- Grade Correction
- Grade Correction Status
- Incomplete Grade Extension.
Once you submit the grade correction, it will be routed to the appropriate department chair and dean for approval:
- Department chairs and deans will receive an email with a link to approve the grade correction.
- Both you, and the student who you initiated the correction for will get an email once the grade is successfully changed.
