Closed Courses
Every class at Clemson has a size limit. Once these limits are reached, the course is closed. If you want or need to take a course that has been closed or you received a registration error, you may request an enrollment override or to be added above the course capacity. Alternatively, you may add yourself to the class's waitlist if one exists. Review our how-to instructions for each option below.
Enrollment Options for Restricted or Closed Courses
Course Seat Request
The iROAR Course Seat Request tool is the University's official way for you to request a seat in a course that is at full capacity or if you have received a registration error. The tool allows departments to provide you with an override to register for the course when possible and gauge unmet course demand. Students will receive an email when their request has been completed. They may also review the status of their request on the Status Page, linked from the Student Information Table.
Request assistance with a closed or restricted course in iROAR 〉 Student Self-Service 〉 Student Registration 〉 Course Seat Request.
Please note:
- This form should not be used as a means to request an override for course restrictions you do not meet.
- Being granted an override or added to a section is at the discretion of the individual department. The academic department cannot guarantee your choice of section will be granted.
Course Section Waitlist
You may add yourself to the waitlist for a course section but be sure to check your email regularly. You will receive an email notification when a seat has become available.
Be sure to register for the section within 24 hours of that email notification. If you do not register within 24 hours of notification, you will be removed from the waitlist automatically, and your spot will go to the next person on the list.
You may not waitlist more than one section of the same course.
- The waitlist option is only available for select courses.
- The waitlist option is being phased out and will not be available after Fall 2025.
-
How do I add myself to the waitlist?
- If there is space on the waitlist, click "Add" to add the class to your summary.
- From the action drop down box for that class, in the summary, select "Waitlist."
- Click "Submit." You will see the class now says waitlisted
-
Once I have been notified that a place in the class is available to me, how do I change my status from "Waitlisted" to "Registered"?
In the "Register for Classes" window, use the action drop down box in the summary to change the course from "Waitlisted" to "Registered." Click "Submit."
-
What does it mean if there appears to be a place in the course but I cannot register?
This is because waitlisted students are allowed 24 hours to change their status from "Waitlisted" to "Registered." During this period, spaces are set aside from students; even though they appear to be available, no one else is allowed to register.
-
What if I miss my 24-hour window to change from "Waitlisted" to "Registered?"
You will be removed from the waitlist after your 24-hour window has expired. You would need to add yourself back to the waitlist in iROAR.
-
How do I drop the course if I change my mind while I'm on the waitlist?
In the Register for Classes window, use the action drop down in the summary to change the course from "Waitlisted" to "Drop." Click "Submit."
