Exams and Common Testing

Final Exams

The standing of a student in his/her work at the end of a semester is based upon daily class work, tests or other work and final examinations. Some faculty members may choose to excuse from final examinations all students having the grade of A on the coursework prior to the final examination. For all other students, examinations are required in all subjects at the end of each semester, except in courses in which final examinations are not deemed necessary as approved by the department faculty.

Take a closer look at Clemson’s Final Exam policy in the Academic Catalog below!

Common Testing

Specific courses at Clemson University require common tests for all students enrolled in the course, which occur multiple times throughout the academic term, separate from the final exam. Common testing is mandated for all sections of specific courses in subjects such as Accounting, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. Typically, these courses include approximately three common tests per term.

Final Exam Schedules

Final exams must be given or due on the dates and at the times published in the final exam schedule, except in labs and one-credit-hour courses where the final exam will be given at the last class meeting.

Resolving Final Exam Issues

Curious what to do if you have more than two exams in one calendar day, or two exams at the same time? For assistance with resolving an issue related to final exams, please contact the instructor of the course(s) no less than one week prior to the last class meeting to reschedule your exam.

If your instructors cannot resolve the scheduling issue, the instructor of the lower-numbered course(s) must re-schedule your exam at an alternate date. Please keep in mind that common final exam times may not be rescheduled.
